Behavior Modification Trainer
Hi! I'm Kaitlyn!
I'm so excited to get to work with you and your dog! I often get asked, "How did you get into dog training?", so here’s a little back story.
I grew up on a farm in Dunlap, TN showing horses, and helping with the various animals we had growing up - ponies, horses, llamas, sheep, dogs, miniature cows, pretty much whatever could be bought at a livestock auction, we owned at least one. I got my first dog at age 4. Her name was Belle and she was a Blue Merle Shetland Sheepdog. I loved teaching Belle "tricks" from a young age and we truly did grow up together. I see a lot of her in my current dog, Mojo, a Blue Merle Australian Shepherd. As I got older, I began dog sitting and dog walking through early high school and continued to do this even after graduating.
After graduating high school in 2018 I was pursuing a career in the medical field. I worked as a registered pharmacy technician for nearly three years and although I loved how every day was something different, I knew I wasn't satisfied with doing this for the rest of my life. While working full time at the pharmacy, I began shadowing Sierra, K9 Summit’s CEO. Beginning of 2022 I decided to quit my job at the pharmacy and fully pursue dog training. Leaving Chattanooga was a huge leap of faith as I was not only leaving my job behind, I was leaving my home, friends, and family to move nearly 4 hours south to Alabama for three months.
During my time at dog training school in Cullman, Alabama I was able to get incredible hands-on training experience with pet dogs, extreme behavioral cases, working line K9 dogs, service dogs, and puppies and was given the knowledge and resources on how to properly execute training techniques with each. One of my favorite memories of my time at school was training a police K9 pitbull to do a handstand on her front two paws, on command against the wall!
Once my time was coming to an end at school, I graduated as valedictorian of my graduating class! As soon as I moved home, the following Monday I hit the ground running and took my first stay and train group. Since March of 2022, I have trained hundreds of dogs through stay and trains, and countless dogs through private lessons and virtual training. I specialize in behavioral modification - such as aggression and reactivity. My favorite breeds to train are high energy breeds like Australian Shepherds, Dutch Shepherds, and Bully breed dogs. I also love to work with Bernese Mountain Dogs, Belgian Malinois, mixed breeds and Golden Retrievers.
Each year I make it a priority to do some form of continuing education whether that be a conference or seminar. Since joining K9 Summit in March of 2022, I have been blessed to meet amazing owners and change the lives of so many dogs and families. I can't wait to help provide clarity, clear communication, and guidance to you and your dog!
