Pet Dog Trainer
Hi! I’m Emily. I grew up in a home where my parents were always rescuing and fostering dogs. The love my parents have for animals was passed down to me which led me to pursue a job as a veterinary technician after high school. As a veterinary technician I had the opportunity to work with every kind of dog you can imagine and I can honestly say that I learned something new every day.
During my time as a technician I came across a German shepherd puppy that had a congenital defect. This defect meant he could not eat normally and would be at great risk for complications to arise throughout his lifetime. I took him home to “foster” him, named him “Rodeo,” and he has been with me ever since. I quickly realized he was not like other puppies I’d raised, as he was bred for Schutzhund; a sport that tests a dog’s obedience, tracking, and protection abilities.
I inquired with K9 Summit and began lessons with trainer Kayla the day Rodeo turned 6 months old. I was so pleased with Rodeo’s training I pursued the same program my Golden retriever, Ellie. At the end of Ellie’s course I asked Kayla what she would think of me becoming a dog trainer to which she replied, “Yes, do it!” I was elated to hear this as I had already applied to Highland Canine’s School for Dog Trainers. I spent six months soaking up everything I could about trailing, detection, service work, and police K9s before becoming a certified dog trainer.
What I love about dog training, besides all the sweet puppies of course, is a life of continuous learning. Dog training is the opposite of black and white, it requires so much receptiveness and exuberance from everyone involved.
This industry is always growing and changing - there is always something new to try. I have learned something from every single dog and owner I’ve worked with. I look forward to learning and growing with each and every one of you!
